Living in the Light

2 Samuel 13-14; Matthew 24

“Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Jonadab was a very shrewd man…But Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, said, ‘My Lord should not think that they killed all the princes; only Amnon is dead. This has been Absalom’s expressed intention ever since the day Amnon raped his sister Tamar.’”

2 Samuel 13:3, 32

Jonadab devised the plan for Amnon to rape his sister Tamar. He later was giving counsel to David regarding the revenge of Absalom on Amnon. His hypocrisy and complicity in the scheme was never revealed in scripture; however, he witnessed the consequences of violence against the innocent. David’s family was full of intrigue. David’s own rape and murder of Bathsheba and Uriah in some way limited his moral authority in his home to discipline his children when they committed the same sins. Unconfessed guilt is cancer of the soul, in a life or in a family. However, the truth and blood of Christ can set us free!

“Lord Jesus, give me courage today to live in the light and call others to do the same.”
