The Gift of the Spirit
John 12-14
“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:15-17
In the final hours of his time with his disciples, Jesus promised them he would send the Holy Spirit to counsel and guide them. The Holy Spirit will be with us forever. There is no greater gift Jesus has given to his disciples. The Church was born the day the Holy Spirit was sent as the Spirit of truth. We are guided into truth through seeking the Holy Spirit’s counsel. As the indwelling presence of God in our lives, the Holy Spirit is our comforter, counselor, reminder, teacher, and guide. For those who know and daily rely on the Holy Spirit, no greater gift has ever been given or received. Tragically, it is not only the world that cannot accept the Holy Spirit, but many Christians are fearful and resistant to him as well. Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus in all his fullness to us today.
“Lord Jesus, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the truth, counsel, comfort, and presence of your Spirit.”
