A Costly Word

 1 Kings 22; 2 Chronicles 18-19; Colossians 4

“The king of Israel answered Jehosophat, ‘There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah, son of Imiah.’…The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him,…’Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably…The king of Israel then ordered, ‘Take Micaiah…Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”

1 Kings 22:8, 13, 26, 27

Micaiah had a reputation of speaking exactly what the Lord spoke to him. He was a God-pleaser, not a man-pleaser. In the face of overwhelming political and peer pressure, Micaiah remained true to the Word of the Lord.

Would we be willing to go to prison for the Word of the Lord?

Would we be willing to face rejection from our denominational peers for the Word of the Lord?

The price of listening to and obeying the Word is high. However, the cost of not obeying the Word is higher. Ahab, the king of Israel, died following the prophetic word of Micaiah. Micaiah was prepared to die to remain true to that word.

Will we honor, obey, and be faithful to the Word of the Lord?

“Lord Jesus, I value hearing and obeying your Word each day, for your glory – regardless of the cost.”
