Set Free

 Habakkuk 1-3; John 8

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’”

John 8:31, 32, 34-36

How do we break free from the oppressive power of sin in our lives?

Jesus calls us to know the truth and the truth will set us free. More than words on a page, Jesus himself is the way, the truth, and the life. It is the Son who is the truth, who sets us free from the power of sin.

How?

We invite Jesus God’s Son into our lives as our Savior and Lord and then obey his Word to us through the power of his Spirit within us. With this new authority as children of God, clothed in Christ’s righteousness, we can resist sin, temptation, and all the schemes of the enemy. We can freely repent for our sin and find mercy and grace in our point of need. We have access through Jesus to the very throne of grace. Sin is no longer our master, we belong to Jesus.

“Lord Jesus, thank you for saving me and setting me free to live on mission with you, for your glory.”
