Exiles in Babylon

Daniel 1-2; Revelations 16

“The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘It is done!’ Then there came flashes of lightening, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.”

Revelation 16:17-19

In John’s Revelation, Babylon is not only a specific place, but a worldwide spiritual power. When God gives to Babylon the Great the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath, every city in all the nations will collapse. We live in Babylon. Like Daniel, who was determined not to be defiled, we, too, can live righteous lives and stand for righteousness, regardless of the cost. We, too, can serve in positions of influence, like Daniel, because of the favor of God, while never forgetting we are citizens of another kingdom. Babylon the Great will be judged. Until then, we live in exile, standing for righteousness and serving the King of kings.

“Thank you Father; your name alone is holy. Your kingdom will be done, for your glory.”
