Remembering

Ezekiel 20-21, Psalms 111; Revelations 8

“He has caused his wonders to be remembered…he remembers his covenant forever…The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. They are steadfast forever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness. He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever – holy and awesome is his name.”

Psalm 111:4, 5, 7-9

Why has God caused his wonders to be remembered, written down, and recited over thousands of years?

The Psalmist probably didn’t realize that these words would be repeated thousands of years later. God wants us to know that his ways are good and trustworthy - that following his ways connects us to a story that has unfolded for thousands of years. We serve a God who is faithful to his covenants forever, both his covenant with Abraham, and his covenant with us through Jesus Christ. It is this faithfulness through the ages that causes us to worship God’s holy name. It is God’s name and character which are honored as we retell the story of his faithfulness in our lives, and in the lives of those who have gone before us.

“Father God, you are faithful, just, and trustworthy. Thank you for remembering your covenant with me and renewing me, for your glory.”
