Hearts Transformed

Job 18; Psalms 114; Acts 27-28

“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.”

Psalm 114:7, 8

“…this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.”

Acts 28:27

This painful word from the Lord, originally to Isaiah and then repeated by Jesus and Paul in their preaching ministry, describes the spiritual condition of hard hearts. The word is to a people with calloused hearts, not just to an individual. There are people in the world that are responding to the Gospel with repentance and faith, while other people are described as ‘post-Christian’. No matter how hard our hearts, God is still reaching out to us through his Spirit and Word, desiring to transform hearts of stone into hearts of flesh. The God of Jacob turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water. As we pray for our people today, we are asking the Lord for the same miracle of transformation.

“Lord Jesus, soften the hearts of my people that in humility and repentance they will see you, for your glory.”
