Costly Worship

Job 25: Mark 13-14

“While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.”

Mark 14:3

Jesus was anointed for burial in the home of a leper named Simon who had been healed. John’s Gospel tells us it was Mary who anointed Jesus and that her resurrected brother Lazarus was also present. The signs of the kingdom of God were present as Jesus was covered in nard. This sacrifice of generosity and worship required the container to be broken and poured out, the same requirement for each of us who choose to know and follow Jesus. We, too, live with the signs of Christ’s kingdom rule around us as expressed in his saving, healing, and delivering kingdom authority.

Will we be one of those who argue about the use of money, or those who sacrifice all for Christ?

“Lord Jesus, I love you and sacrifice what I have to you, for your glory.”
