Listening to our Father
Matthew 17-19
“While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’”
Matthew 17:5
The words the Father spoke to the disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration were almost identical to the words he spoke to those gathered at Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River.
Are they similar to the words we hear the Spirit speaking to us?
The Father loves us, is pleased with us, and has named us as his sons and daughters. We belong to him.
Do we ever tire of hearing this?
The disciples were terrified when they heard the words spoken on top of the mountain. As they walked with God following Pentecost, they heard those words countless times within their own spirit. With the Holy Spirit dwelling in us and relating to our spirit, we don’t need to climb a mountain to hear the Father (John 14:23). The Father’s Word and Spirit counsel us when he is ‘at home’ within our lives.
Are we listening to our Father?
“Father God, thank you for speaking of your love and pleasure within me, through your Word and Spirit, for your glory.”
