Choosing Our Inheritance in God

 Joshua 21-22; Psalms 47; 1 Corinthians 10

“Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth. He subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet. He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.”

Psalm 47:1-4

When we understand that the Lord Most High is the great King over all the earth, then his choice of Israel’s territorial inheritance is understandable. It was God who chose the Canaanite territory for Israel. It is God whose kingdom is coming and whose will is being done on earth as it is in heaven. It is God who invites us to ask him for nations as our inheritance and the ends of the earth for our possession. The Gospel liberates peoples and nations from the bondage of sin and frees them to live under God’s authority and ways. God’s authority must be chosen in love, not imposed through fear. Christ’s victory over sin and death was the result of God so loving the world that he gave his one and only Son. Love is the key to possessing our inheritance and freeing the nations through the Gospel. Once we find our place in this mission, we, too, will clap our hands with joy, along with the nations.

“Lord Jesus, thank you for setting me and nations free to know and love the Father, for your glory.”
