Sowing and Reaping
Deuteronomy 28-29; Galatians 6
“’Whoever sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.’”
Galatians 6:8-10
The ‘law of return’ in the harvest reminds us that whether we sow to please the Spirit, or the flesh, we will reap a corresponding harvest. When we obey the promptings of the Spirit in doing good to others, we are both sowing seeds for a spiritual harvest and obeying the law of Christ to love one another. The proper time for a harvest is influenced by the growing cycle, not only a particular time of year. Acts of kindness soften people’s hearts and humility/repentance breaks up the fallow ground. The fruit of the Spirit grows as we yield to and obey the Spirit. To be full of the Spirit is to be surrendered to the Spirit. Worshiping in the Spirit, praying in the Spirit, and listening to the Spirit, all strengthen the Spirit’s work in our lives and the corresponding growth of fruit.
What evidence is there in our lives for the Spirit presence and power?
“Father God, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit within me, and for the good fruit he is producing in me, for your glory.”
