Stewarding Leadership
2 Samuel 13-14; Matthew 24
“’Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?...But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.’”
Matthew 24:45, 48, 49
The standard Jesus sets for all who serve in leadership positions in his kingdom requires faithfulness, wisdom, and stewardship. Gifting and personality will always vary from one leader to the next, but all leaders in Christ’s kingdom recognize they are stewarding relationships and trust. Jesus warns us against abusing positions of authority in his kingdom to mistreat fellow Christ-followers or to indulge our appetites. Christ calls us to be humble and to use self-control as we serve others who are under his authority. The only way this kind of leadership is possible is if we have died to self and have found our life in Christ and not in our positional authority.
In what areas is Jesus inviting us to strengthen the health of our leadership?
“Lord Jesus, you are my example of humble, courageous, selfless leadership, for your glory.”
