The Kindness of God
1 Kings 7; 2 Chronicles 4; Psalms. 98; Romans 2
“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things…do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?
Romans 2:1, 4
In view of our own sin, we have no right to pass judgment on others. Religion is good at defining systems of self-righteousness where merit attempts to counter-weigh our sin. The Gospel clearly opposes religious systems of self-righteousness. The mercy of God, expressed in his kindness to us, declares that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The implication being that we are all helpless in sin before God, and are in need of being rescued. Let us respond to our sin and that of others with humility, pointing each other to Jesus and to repentance through God’s grace.
“Lord Jesus, thank you for your kindness toward me.”
