Take the Scroll
Ezekiel 25-28, Revelations 10
“…’Go, take the scroll…’ So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, ‘Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’”
Revelation 10:8, 9
God invites us to take his Word and not just read it, or share it, but to eat it. Jesus said that we don’t just live on bread alone, but on every word which comes from the mouth of God. To digest God’s Word requires that we take it in, meditate on it, and allow the Word to transform us.
Why does the Word taste like honey in our mouths and yet turn our stomachs sour?
In John’s experience, the joy of revelation was combined with the price of judgment. Sin has a price. For the joy set before him, Christ endured the cross. To live on mission with Jesus today, filled with his Word and Spirit, brings both the joy of salvation and the pain of suffering.
Will we eat the scroll offered to us?
Lord Jesus, thank you for your living Word within me, for your glory.”
