Faith Expressed
Genesis 44-46; Luke 18
“…’Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:6-8
Why would people cry out day and night to God whom they cannot see?
Prayer is evidence of faith in God - faith that he exists and that he pursues relationship with us. The story of the widow crying out day and night to the unjust judge, asking for justice, is positioned as an example of faith in human institutions.
How much more should we have faith in the Creator of heaven and earth?
The focus of the widow’s cry was justice. In a world full of injustice, Jesus is inviting his chosen ones, the church - Christ’s body, to cry out to God for justice.
Will we intercede for cultures and contexts where the most vulnerable in society are exploited?
Will we express faith in God to transform communities through prayer?
“Lord God, I cry out to you for the oppressed peoples of India, that they would be liberated from their bondage to sin, fear, lust, and pride. Set these peoples free by the power of your gospel.”
