What Gets our Attention?

Exodus 25-27; Acts 6

“There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.”

Exodus 25:22

“…It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables…we will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Acts 6:2, 4

The purpose of the tabernacle was that people could meet with God, and God could meet with people. God’s purpose in creation was to be in fellowship with man. Sin separated us from God who is holy. The mercy seat, or atonement cover, over the ark of the Testimony was to be the place where relationship with God was restored and renewed through God’s mercy in atoning for sin. With the sacrifice of Christ for our sins, we, by faith, can approach God’s throne of grace boldly. When leaders in the Church are too busy strategizing, serving, and caring to give their attention to God’s presence and meeting with him, something has to change.

What is currently commanding our attention and time as leaders?

Is it meeting with God through prayer and the Word, or is it serving God’s people with recycled words?

If we have fresh revelation and bread from the presence of the Lord, God’s people will be drawn to also seek his presence.

“Lord Jesus, you are the Living Bread, the atoning sacrifice, and the Living Word. Thank you for meeting me, for your glory.”
