Covered By Our Redeemer

 Ruth 3-4; Psalms 64-65; 2 Corinthians 6

“…’I am your servant Ruth,’ she said. ‘Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.’ ‘The Lord bless you, my daughter,’ he replied. ‘This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor.’”

Ruth 3:9, 10

Boaz’s garment symbolized his protection, covering, and authority. Ruth appealed to Boaz as a kinsman-redeemer who could liberate her and Naomi from poverty. Yet Boaz’s humble response indicates he was the one who felt blessed by Ruth’s overture. As we willingly come to Jesus our Redeemer, and ask him to cover us, we, too, are received with loving humility. Our freewill response to God’s gracious gospel is the only gift we have to bring to our Lord.

Why run after the rival lovers of this world when we have a Redeemer ready to transform our lives and our eternity?

“Lord Jesus, I offer my life to you again this day, for your glory.”
