No Longer Live for Ourselves

Ruth 1-2; Psalms 53, 61; 2 Corinthians 5

“So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it…he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”

2 Corinthians 5:9, 15

If someone were to observe our lives closely for a week, what would they describe as our goals in life?

Who or what would they say we are living for?

Paul made it his goal to please Christ. He understood his eternal identity was as a son of the Most High. Living for ourselves and indulging our bodies is like focusing on a tent, when we have a beautiful home waiting for us. The evidence that we have experienced salvation by receiving the death of Christ for our sin-debt is that we no longer live for ourselves. Our lives now belong to God.

Again, if someone were to closely observe how we live for a week, would they conclude that we live for God?

Now is the day of salvation!

“Lord Jesus, I live for you. All I have is yours, for your glory.”
