A Mighty Wind
Exodus 14-16; Acts 2
“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.’”
Exodus 14:13, 14
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting…All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Acts 2:1, 2, 4
God’s deliverance of Israel required that they stood firm and were still in their surrender to God’s purpose and plan. The strongest army in the world was defeated by the ‘ruach’, or breath of God, as he parted the Red Sea. This same breath, or wind, of God blew through the Upper Room and filled 120 people with the Holy Spirit. The disciples went from fear to bold faith as they immediately began proclaiming the Gospel. We need the breath of God to fill us today to both defeat the schemes of the enemy opposing the witness of the Gospel, and to empower us to live on mission with Christ.
Will we humble ourselves, still our hearts, fix our eyes on Jesus, and invite his ‘ruach’ to blow through our lives, filling us with new faith and love?
“Lord Jesus, wind of God, fill me and empower me to live your mission, for your glory.”
