Who are we Running After?

2 Kings 4-5; Psalms 83; 1 Timothy 2

“Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, ‘My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.’”

2 Kings 5:20

In relationships, motives matter and are of critical importance when finances are involved. Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, exploited the gratitude of Naaman to enrich himself. Gehazi reasoned that Elisha was missing an opportunity and forgot that it was Jehovah Jireh and not Elisha who had graciously healed Naaman. When we become the focus of our ministry story, we too, will lose the plot. Our purpose is to give glory to God as he accomplishes his purposes through us. Telling God’s story points others as well as ourselves toward full dependence on the Lord for our provision.

Are we men and women of God, or hirelings looking for well-paying, religious employment?

Are we running after generous donors, or seeking the Lord?

“Lord God, you are my source. I trust you for all that I need, for your glory.”
