Silence

Job 26-27; Mark 15-16

“But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilot was amazed…’My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’”

Mark 15:5, 34

Jesus died “like a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53:7). His life -spirit, soul, and body - was surrendered to the will of his Father. Yet in the agony of taking the sin of the world upon himself and atoning for this sin, even the Father withdrew his presence from him. Like a seed falling into the ground and dying, Christ entered the silence of death so that many seeds could be birthed and multiply.

Are we, too, willing to be silent when accused and are we willing to trust our Father for his will to be done in our lives and discipleship story?

Are we willing to trust the Father in our tests and the crucible of faith when he, too, becomes silent?

“Lord Jesus, in the tests, I choose to guard my tongue and not defend myself when you are asking me to be silent, for your glory.”
