The New Jerusalem

Revelation 19-22

“…’Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God…On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel…The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”

Revelation 21:9, 10, 12, 14

The Bride of Christ, the wife of the Lamb, is a Holy City, the New Jerusalem. This Bride is made up of both Israel (the twelve tribes) and the Church (the apostles) in its structure. The Chief Cornerstone is Jesus Christ. It is Jesus, the Christ, and our faith in his finished work of salvation on the cross which unites Jews and Gentiles into the body of Christ. Jesus has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility between Jews and Gentiles.

“In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord” (Ephesians 2:21).

Are we anticipating the fullness of this last chapter in salvation-history?

As we enter a new year, are we sharing and living God’s global and eternal peace-plan through Christ with the nations?

“Lord Jesus, you are my peace and my future, for your glory.”
