God Reigns

Joshua 21-22; Psalms 47; 1 Corinthians 10

“God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted…He chose our inheritance for us…”

Psalm 47:8, 9, 4

The Lord chose to give life to each one of us. Our life comes from him and will return to him. The Lord reigns over the nations, even those who have chosen to rebel against him and serve fallen powers. The Lord has determined the times and places in which we live so we would seek him and find him (Acts 17:26). The Lord has chosen our inheritance in his kingdom. This inheritance includes our salvation from sin, but also our best contributions to his kingdom-mission through good works which he prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). All of this must cause us to worship God. As we offer our lives to him again today, let’s thank God for the nation we are called to reach with the gospel and let’s bring our leaders before God’s throne in prayer. They belong to God whether they are aware off it or not. Pray that God’s kingdom comes in all its fullness and his will is done in our nation and in our lives.

“Lord Jesus, reign in my heart and life, for your glory.”
