Whose Kingdom are we Serving?

Daniel 1-2; Revelation 16 

“…’Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.’ …’In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself endure forever.’”

Daniel 2:20, 21, 44

Do we believe these words?

Do we believe that Jesus Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth?

Do we believe that God changes the times and seasons of earthly kingdoms and leaders?

Do we believe it was the kingdom of God which crushed the Roman Empire?

Do we believe any of our modern empires will suffer any other fate?

When we embrace nationalism and exceptionalism, we set ourselves against the kingdom of God. Those who know God and submit to Jesus Christ as Lord understand the ultimate reality is the spiritual realm, and from that realm authority flows. No leader or nation can pridefully resist the kingdom of God and endure. Our prayer must be for God’s kingdom to come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Like Daniel, those who live for God’s kingdom will and rule find it costly and eternally rewarding.

Whose kingdom are we serving?

“Lord Jesus, you are my King. I will live for your will and for your glory.”
